Krauss-Maffei Wegmann

We at Sveadiesel are very proud of our long-standing cooperation with the German manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW). KMW specialises in development and manufacturing of combat vehicles of high-quality, and have a wide palette of products within this niche.

The Leopard group of tanks are widely spread around the world and the latest versions are commonly seen as the best tanks ever created. In the beginning of the 1990s the Swedish defence chose the Leopard 2A6 when the armoured units would be re-equipped with new tanks. The system which in Sweden is called tank 122, still asserts itself very well in an international comparison.

The reason why Leopard 2, and therefore also tank 122, is so competent is it’s unique combination of the base elements fire, movement, protection and management. Tank 122 has a coming upgrade, where one of the most important requirements is compatibility with the army’s new Battlefield Management System – SLB.

During the summer of 2014 FMV and KMW signed a deal regarding the delivery of new bridge-laying tracked vehicles. KMW’s system Leguan was the best system for The Armed Force’s requirements. Leguan is a well-tested system and enables large logistical wins as the chassis shares many components with our existing Leopard tanks.

Leguan can carry a 26m or two 14m field bridges and places or picks up them in a few minutes. The personal can perform all tasks from within the vehicle and sit well protected from surrounding threats. Introducing Leguan has drastically improve the army units’ possibility to advance through harsh terrain.
